After first studying at HEAO in Emmen and then business economics at Erasmus University Rotterdam, I started out in the world of international logistics. At P&O Nedlloyd (now part of Maersk), I got to know the huge diversity within a multinational. In various roles across finance, logistics operations and procurement, in the Netherlands and abroad, I learned how to achieve goals in a complex multinational, multicultural organisation. In the following years at LyondellBasell (chemicals) and Nutreco (animal nutrition), I specialised further in international procurement and supply chain.
Through all these different experiences, it became clear to me that procedures, processes and data are important building blocks for any service and manufacturing organisation, but that it's the people who ultimately determine the quality of the output. Over time, the emphasis shifted from operational & tactical management to building teams and leading organisational change. Various leadership courses allowed me to develop my own skills further, and I can now coach others in them too.
At a strategic level, I redesigned and implemented an international supply chain model (from forecasting, planning, customer service and warehousing to international logistics). In various strategic procurement roles, I sought collaboration with areas adjacent to procurement — such as sales, operations, supply chain, finance and logistics — to achieve the best results together.
Working together in teams to deliver structural improvements is what gives me energy and what I do. I speak the language of management and the board, and connect easily with the floor.
