Hanzestrohm (formerly Hemmink Group) is a group of companies that offer specialist products and services from a technical brand portfolio. The Hanzestrohm companies have in-depth know-how in the field of building solutions, industrial solutions and infrastructure solutions. This family business is firmly rooted in the Zwolle region. Hanzestrohm has a clear vision and, with an appropriate strategy, gives hands and feet to its long-term goals. Hanzestrohm pays a lot of attention to its employees and attaches great importance to the growth of individuals and teams.
Through autonomous growth and acquisitions, Hanzestrohm's logistics had grown out of line. New construction and integration were supposed to make the necessary simplification in processes and investments in efficiency improvements possible.
Through acquisitions, Hanzestrohm has three separate logistics sites, which function almost completely independently. In addition, the customer portfolios are partly overlapping. Hanzestrohm's logistical home port in Zwolle has also grown 'organically' and is therefore not the most efficient distribution center.
Hanzestrohm seeks to improve the efficiency of its logistics by integrating the logistics of its operating companies, including the logistical back office activities. Integration also provides the volume to invest in - among other things - mechanization of logistics flows.
Hanzestrohm's management strongly believes that there should be a focus on its core activities. If issues arise that the organization assesses that it does not have the knowledge and competences in-house, a specialist will be called in for this. The construction of a new distribution center is one such issue. Hanzestrohm sought help and advice in the design and layout of the new distribution center with associated processes and resources. The aim is to set up an efficient operation here where it is also pleasant for logistics employees to work. The project must be completed on time and within budget.
UC Group has provided a team consisting of a program manager, logistical process engineers and an assurance advisor. Together with the professionals at Hanzestrohm, this team has shaped the physical and logistical processes.
With a thorough project setup according to the UC Group iPORS principle - Invent, Plan, Organize, Realize and Secure - the program was designed. The purpose of the program manager's deployment is to unburden the operational Hanzestrohm organization. New construction and transition are not at the expense of Hanzestrohm's continuity and reputation. Stakeholder management and project controlling get the attention it deserves.
UC Group has made a clear plan taking into account the client's preconditions. In good harmony with the committed professionals at Hanzestrohm, she was able to take all the necessary steps to run the program successfully. Thanks to UC Group's solid approach and substantive knowledge, the Hanzestrohm organization had confidence in the approach and there was a lot of peace in the operational organization during the implementation of the program.
After completing the new construction and transition program, the following results were achieved:
Hanzestrohm has opted for a warehouse where four platform lifts (from Kardex) play an important role. This mechanization solution is at the heart of the distribution center, complemented by a put to light system.
The system makes it possible to process large quantities of order lines to be picked. For goods with more volume, storage was chosen in pallet racks, small compartments, ball stacking and long goods racks. A separate pick zone has been created for each type of storage. The shipments are brought together in a consolidation area. Hanzestrohm's specific knowledge, combined with UC Group's logistical knowledge and experience, has proven to lead to practical solutions.
