After Business Studies in Emmen and Business Economics at the Erasmus University Rotterdam Johan started working in international logistics. He experienced the huge diversity of a multinational at P&O Nedlloyd (now part of Maersk), where his various roles in finance, logistics operations and procurement in the Netherlands and elsewhere taught him about achieving goals in a complex multinational and multicultural environment. He later worked for LyondellBasell (chemicals) and Nutreco (animal feed), specialising in international procurement and supply chains.
Johan’s wide-ranging experience has shown him that while procedures, processes and data are all important components for any company providing products or services, it is the people who determine the ultimate quality of output. Over time the focus of his work has moved from operational and tactical management to building teams and leading organisational change. Through various leadership courses he has continued developing his skills and now coaches others.
At a strategic level he has redesigned and implemented an international supply chain model (ranging from forecasting, planning, customer service and warehousing to international logistics). In various strategic procurement roles he has collaborated with related fields such as sales, operations, supply chain, finance and logistics to optimise the results achieved.
Collaborating with teams to achieve structural improvements energises Johan. And it’s how he works. He speaks in terms that management understands, while also being good at talking to people on the workfloor.
