Bas van der Mast

Senior Consultant Ocean Freight Forwarding

Solutions:

Biography

Bas was born and grew up in and around Rotterdam. From a very early age he was attracted to the port and to the world of shipping, logistics and international trade. His work ethic is governed by the typical Rotterdam attitude of ‘No nonsense’ and ‘It’s not what you say, it’s what you do that counts’.

He is energised by discovering, exploring and innovating, and quality is always his top priority. Being entrepreneurial and receptive to change are all part of his personality. He attaches great importance to loyalty and reliability, but also understands the need for patience and that improvements and success are often achieved step by step.

Outside work, he enjoys sport and switching between the calm and quiet of nature and culture and fun in the city. He and his partner also regularly visit Italy, where they enjoy la dolce vita in the form of traditional food and wine prepared with passion, history and the wealth of beautiful landscapes.

Experience

After various training programmes and operational activities he gained wide-ranging experience in a series of international staff and management positions in ocean freight forwarding.

He started out as a planner in Van Ommeren Transport’s NVOCC department and then moved on into a variety of management roles for regional and global headquarters. Thanks to his high level of knowledge of operations and negotiating contracts with shipping companies, supporting the M&S and selecting innovative TMS systems he was able to make a substantial contribution to a successful series of sea-freighting integrations for Air Express International, Danzas and DHL Global Forwarding.
