Abbott Nutrition, part of Abbott (a global healthcare player), selected UC Group for Lean Six Sigma project management to reduce overfill in its powder filling line.

Customer challenge

To reduce overfill in the powder filling line and implement inline weighing equipment as a primary, certified process.

  • Significant improvements in reducing overfill in the powder filling line, with a payback time of less than a year
  • Clear objectives and a clear communications structure for monitoring daily, weekly and monthly results
  • Implementing automatic inline weighing equipment to replace the manual control process
  • Initiating and taking the first steps towards cultural change

Our solution

We worked closely with Abbott Nutrition’s management and employees to launch several Lean Six Sigma projects. By measuring and then interpreting our measurements we could quickly identify where improvements were needed. With relatively small investments and initiatives we could then quickly achieve considerable improvements, including:

  • Facilitating Kaizen improvement events
  • Implementing OEE (Overall Equipment Efficiency) tooling
  • Coaching and supporting Green Belts
  • Six Sigma project management

UC Group’s Lean Six Sigma Black Belt used a structured DMAIC process to optimise our filling line.
